Concept, Design & Process
When the clients bought an original 18th-century mill worker house for its historic value, they hired Marshall Sabatini to design an addition that would create a functional living space in the home and blend with its historical features. After researching the correct way to preserve the home’s integrity, we carefully dissected and removed a poorly executed addition constructed in the 1970s.
The new design achieved an open floor plan. The addition’s first floor provided for an entry foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, family room, and mudroom with modern amenities. The second floor of the addition housed a master bedroom suite and two additional bedrooms. We also added four updated bathrooms. The renovated older portion contained a first-floor bedroom and two bedrooms on the second floor.
