Concept, Design & Process
This home is located in the historic district of Pocono Manor. As with many older homes, interesting challenges often arise in the renovation process. Interesting challenges often arise when renovating new homes. In this situation, the client asked us to find a way to convert his rooftop deck into a sleeping porch. We noticed visible splitting throughout the exposed timber beams in the room below the roof deck, so we had a structural consultant redesign the floor so that it would drain properly and we could begin building the client’s vision of an enclosed porch.
The completed project included an enclosed rooftop deck, renovated kitchen, dining room, and a new first-floor master bedroom suite. Additional features included a mudroom entrance and neighboring craftsman-style kitchen, both tastefully blended with the home’s original style. We ensured that the beams across the ceiling would mirror the style and finish of the original beams throughout the rest of house, adding ceiling tiles as a finishing touch.
