Concept, Design & Process
The goal for Tierra Caliente was to convert a kids’ furniture store into the flagship restaurant for a Mexican restaurateur who owns five other locations. Repurposing this space involved considering its capacity, room for patrons to move comfortably within the restaurant, spacing the equipment, furniture and bar that would be housed here, and of course meeting the nuances of the local building codes.
We carefully designed every square inch of the layout to utilize the space efficiently, while allowing for the Mexican flair and ambiance the client was seeking. The design included brick arches and murals on the walls. An elevated open kitchen concept was included and we made sure it met accessibility guidelines.
In the end, the project was successful, because the collaboration between Marshall Sabatini, Rets builders and the owners was an effective one. We have always felt, in addition to our experienced architects, our ability to communicate is what sets us apart.
